About 21 lakh people across India were HIV positive and information related to 164 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres, 22 Anti Retroviral Treatment centres, 142 blood banks across the State were provided in the stalls. 75% of all people living with HIV knew their HIV status in 2017. It has also pledged to enable 90% of HIV positive people in the country know their status on treatment and provide 90% of those on treatment experience with effective viral load suppression.
Another student said many youths are unaware of the April 10 National Youth AIDS Day and urged the AIDS commission to use the day for mass intensive public education on the awareness of HIV/AIDS to help reduce increasing rate.
"Thus, we must intensify our collective efforts to meet the serious challenges to eliminating the spread of HIV/AIDS among young people in Nigeria and Lagos State, in order to move towards a HIV-free generation by 2020", Dabiri said.
Also speaking, the permanent secretary in the ministry, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who was represented by Kayode Asake said, "HIV testing is essential for expanding treatment and ensuring that all people living with HIV can have healthy and productive health".
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has become the country's first PM to publicly take a HIV test after he released a video clip on his twitter account on Saturday, showing him receiving a Rapid HIV Test in a local clinic, reported local media.
"Many of those who are being left behind are those who are more affected by HIV including people who use drugs, sex workers, men who have sex with men and prisoners". This is particularly important given that approximately one third of new HIV infections occur among young people aged 15 to 24 years old.
This year is the 30-year anniversary of World AIDS Day, first initiated by WHO in 1988.
However, it is also an important reminder that despite progress made, the world can not become complacent in its response to HIV.
