Mr. Kuo, of TF International Securities, believes the case will finally arrive next year.
Apple Insider claims to have seen a new report note by the analyst that revises some of his earlier estimations. The ASP of the hinge of the new charging box will rise by 60-80% because of spec upgrades for appearance design changes and higher thermal requirements. Now, it's not the AirPods themselves that will be charged wirelessly but the case will be. Still, rumors suggest both products are still on the way, and a new report from Ming-Chi Kuo touches on the former.
There was some expectation that Apple would release an update to AirPods or AirPower at its recent fall iPhone and iPad events. If Apple has a pleasant surprise waiting for us with the introduction of the updated silicon, we will be waiting to see what they have been working on. Kuo also notes that the AirPods will witness a design overhaul and will be launched with an "all-new design".
If the new pair of AirPods truly has Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, then this means that it will have dual audio support.
If you can't wait for Apple, there are creative third party solutions out there which provide wireless charging for your AirPod case. There has been talk about Apple adding the "Hey Siri" feature, allowing users to activate the virtual assistant with that phrase. Other benefits include a longer range and faster pairing.
For the AirPods 2, featuring a new, wireless charging case, Kuo originally told us to expect them in the second half of this year. But there's no mention of an actual wireless charging pad to, ya know, charge your AirPods. Unfortunately, Kuo didn't provide any details about the next-generation AirPods.
