Paxson also said the Bulls are committed to Boylen as their long-term head coach and that general manager Gar Forman is "absolutely safe".
Boylen becomes the sixth coach hired by the current front office. With 33 years of coaching experience, that includes 20 seasons in the NBA, Boylen has been a part of three NBA Championship teams.
The Bulls are off to a sluggish start this season.
- The Chicago Bullsannounced the firing of head coach Fred Hoiberg on Monday morning. with the team stuck near the bottom of the standings. He finishes his tenure in Chicago with a record of 115-155 (.426) and a single playoff appearance, when the Bulls were ousted in the first round by Boston in 2017.
He replaced Tom Thibodeau, who was sacked after five seasons.
Following his first run in Chicago, the Bulls chose to pair All-Star Jimmy Butler - who shot just 31.2 percent from distance the year prior - with Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade, who have combined to shoot just 31.1 from outside over the course of their careers. It's a major step for the team who are finally starting to get a few healthy starters into the lineup as the new year approaches.
Following the exodus of former Coach of the Year Tom Thibodeau, the front office pairing of John Paxson and Gar Forman chose to go with a more modern approach to their next hiring. And we have a lot to play for in this program and this place. And he handled a lot of hard situations with class.
"What I hope we can do is own "Bulls" across our chest better", said Boylen.
