The only problem there is that they chose Josh Rosen with the #10 pick in the NFL Draft just a year ago.
News came out on Wednesday night via the San Francisco Chronicle saying that the Oakland A's are expecting Murray to enter the NFL Draft and pursue a football career.
If Murray elects not to play baseball, he would have to return the signing bonus but Oakland would not receive any compensation picks in this June's draft, according to Slusser. Some scouts and teams reportedly see him as a first-round pick.
Murray's agent, Scott Boras, told The Chronicle in December that his client planned to report to the A's. Chiefly among those are that the Cardinals already have a franchise quarterback, not to mention that Murray is not widely projected to go No. 1 in the draft and Murray may not even play football.
Murray was the ninth overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft of the A's and, as such, has a $4.88 million contract waiting for him if he chooses to play baseball. "All I know is Kyler has a tremendous opportunity to be a great baseball player and he knows that". Seems like Kingsbury will have his chance to put his money where his mouth is and take Murray.
Fast forward less than three months, and Kingsbury is now the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, who happen to own the first pick in the draft. But realistically, it's unlikely Kingsbury would take Murray with the top pick, no matter how big of a freak he is.
Murray was selected No. 9 overall by Oakland in last year's draft but returned to Oklahoma for his Junior season, where he won the Heisman after tossing 42 touchdowns compared to just seven interceptions. Kingsbury was sacked by Texas Tech after three straight losing seasons, and he was hired as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, who just so happen to have the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft.
