If the introduction of the new CLA at a technology show instead of a traditional auto show comes as a surprise, it shouldn't. The growth was primarily driven by Long Wheelbase E-Class sedan, which continued to remain the single highest selling model for the brand in January-December 2018 period.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA is back, despite MB's new A-Class sort of filling the entry-level four-door gap in the lineup.
The new CLA-Class's interior appears to be lifted right out of the A-Class, with two free-standing, monolithic screens for instrumentation and infotainment. The new CLA has also been honed in the wind tunnel to have a drag coefficient of 0.23, very close to the previous car's 0.22 Cd, despite a larger frontal area. The new CLA is bigger too, measuring 4688mm long (+48mm), 1830mm wide (+53mm) and 1439mm tall (-2mm). It sits lower to the ground by 2 mm, however, it has sacrificed 10 litres of boot capacity, although improvements have been made to the width of the load opening space, meaning you should be able to better utilise the space that the CLA has to offer. The full details about the CLA as released by Mercedes at CES can be found in the document attached below. Engine outputs are 225 hp and 350 Nm of torque, transmitted to the wheels via a 7G-DCT dual-clutch transmission.
After countless spy photos and a myriad of teasers, the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA has officially been revealed to the world.
The new 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 is a tech-heavy, style-centric sedan with a more potent turbo-4 and the automaker's latest infotainment system.
The first three generations of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class were kept away from North America largely because they were small, comparatively expensive luxury hatchbacks, and no one here wants those. The MBUX uses artificial intelligence to customize the driver's experience and can adapt to the user, Mercedes says. The driver has four control options; touchscreen, steering wheel control, transmission tunnel touch pad and voice recognition.
When it arrives in the USA, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 will be equipped as standard with the automaker's MBUX infotainment system that offers personal assistant features, similar to home smart speaker or smartphone functions. The carmaker also claims that the system no longer gets confused by other passengers talking and only responds to the commands of the last person to say the activation phrase. Flip a "v" at the centre console and MBUX will also access a personal favourites menu. The twin power bulges in the hood hark back to the 300SL Gullwing sports vehicle.
