The Celtics are unable to trade for Davis this season because Kyrie Irving and Davis are both under rookie contract extensions, and you can not have two players like that on your roster.
Anthony Davis Sr. spoke with ESPN's Ramona Shelburne on Friday and made it clear he doesn't want his son playing for an organization that treated Isaiah Thomas the way it did. Despite what the Lakers have offered, the Pelicans remain "curious" that the Celtics may include Jayson Tatum in an offer this summer.
The report also states the Boston Celtics are encouraging the Pelicans to hang on to Davis past the deadline and wait until the summer to deal when they can offer a more substantial package.
Although the Celtics are not openly putting the second-year stud from Duke on the table for a potential deal, sources add that New Orleans has "been left with the impression that if Davis remains on the roster past Thursday, nothing is off the table". Though a minor move in nature, moving Bird could be key to the most major transaction the Celtics make this season. "No loyalty. Guy gives his heart and soul and they traded him", said Anthony Davis Sr. Celtics GM Danny Ainge has pleaded with the Pelicans' front office to hold off and he would make it worth their while this offseason with their trove of draft picks and young talent. "This is just my opinion, not Anthony's".
The Bucks have yet to inquire about a deal for Davis, sources told Wojnarowski, who added that such a trade would be extremely hard to execute due to their roster composition.
Because of a rule precluding the Celtics from acquiring both Davis and Kyrie Irving, on their current contracts, the team was sidelined from the pursuit this week.
