At least five persons were killed and another 30 injured, including some critically, when a portion of a overhead pedestrian bridge outside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus came crashing down on Thursday.
All the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals, a disaster management cell official said. The signal was red, because of which several motorists were waiting and were saved when the overbridge collapsed.
"I demand that structural auditors who carried out the inspection and structural audit of the bridge be booked under IPC section 302 (murder)", Deora said.
The bridge, which was under fix according to multiple Indian media reports, gave way around 7.30 pm (1400 GMT) as rush hour commuters made their way into Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
Another eyewitness said most of the victims were walking on the overbridge on their way to the CST station when it collapsed. While some stare at unemployment following incapacitating injuries, others continue to nurse a fear of local trains and railway bridges.
India's public infrastructure projects are substandard and collapse often in part because of corruption that leads to the construction of weak structure foundations and poor maintenance. He added that 36 people are injured, out of which two are in serious condition. Police along with fire brigade have reached the spot and rescue work has begun.

The bridge connects to one of Mumbai's biggest local stations, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, which was the site of a militant attack in 2008, and is used by tens of thousands of commuters each day. "Mumbaikars feel very unsafe in the city, considering the frequent incidents of bridge collapses", the former MP said. He also added that a structural audit of the bridge had earlier been done and it was found to be fit but the incident raises a question on the audit.
Just after the incident, Mumbai Police had tweeted: "Foot over-bridge connecting CST platform 1 north end with B T Lane near Times of India building has collapsed". Hope administration takes swift action & provides urgent medical help to injured. Traffic affected. Commuters are requested to use alternate routes. "The railways and the BMC will jointly inquire the accident", Tawde told reporters.
The major repairs of 223 bridges in the city began after the audit, while 176 bridges are under minor repairs.
At least 12 people are still trapped under the debris. After the railway bridge collapse, the audit was ordered of all such bridges.
Visuals showed that the middle of the bridge fell onto the road below. Following the mishap, the civic body chose to undertake a structural audit of all the bridges in the city.
