"Today I challenge our top retail competitors (you know who you are!) to match our employee benefits and our $15 minimum wage", Bezos said. In an annual letter to his shareholders on Thursday, Bezos compared the growth in merchandise sales of third-party sellers on Amazon since 1999 with the growth of third-party sales on eBay in the same period.
Bartlett tweeted a link to a Yahoo Finance article picturing Bezos that cited a report from an NGO that said Amazon paid no taxes on its 2018 profit of $11.2 billion.
In response, eBay CEO Devin Wenig takes to Twitter to defend his company. We don't compete with our sellers. "We don't bundle endless services to create barriers to competition", Wenig tweeted as eBay's stock fell by 5 per cent on Thursday. Amazon also upskilled 50,000 USA employees to help employees move up in the company.
Amazon, for its part, has said it pays all required taxes.
But rivals continue to take pot shots at Amazon not having to pay anything to the IRS.
"We invested in both of these programs at significant financial risk and after much internal debate", Bezos said in the letter.
It is true that there is an obvious difference in the minimum wage between Walmart and Amazon.
Walmart has enacted a number of wage hikes in the last few years, most recently in January 2018 when it boosted its minimum wage for starting U.S. workers to $11 an hour from $9 an hour.
Around 17,000 British employees benefited from the rise.
Walmart is reportedly acquiring Polymorph Labs, advertising startup in Silicon Valley for that goal. "The good news for shareowners is that a single big winning bet can more than cover the cost of many losers", he wrote.
According to marketers, Amazon has notched up 14 percent of digital ad spend share and is at a close third behind Google's 21 percent and Facebook's 19 percent.
In the retail digital retail advertising space, Facebook and Google were leaders until Amazon caught up with them.
