Under pressure, we have seen Dinesh Karthik finishing matches. With IPL 2019 already creating a buzz, the biggest announcement about ICC World Cup 2019 Team India squad is out. Vijay Shankar made his way to the squad after some notable knocks in recent matches.
It goes without saying that Virat Kohli will lead the side and Rohit Sharma will be his deputy.
"Definitely a case where we debated in length".
Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, 37, is first-choice wicketkeeper.
Prasad said that Vijay Shankar, an all-rounder, provides a "three-dimensional" option to Ambati Rayudu in the number 4 position. That is the reason that went in favour of Dinesh Karthik.
"After the Champions Trophy, we have tried quite a few middle-order batsmen, which also included Karthik, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey".
He also commented on KL Rahul's inclusion.
Rahul' selection could also mean bad news for Karthik and Pant.
"In the last one and half years, it is these two wristies (wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav), who have won us the games but there might be situations where, you require an additional all-rounder in the playing 11, (this is) where Jadeja comes in", Prasad explained. We did give a few more chances to Rayudu but Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions. In the bowling department, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been selected. The main competition in the 15-man squad will be for three spots - the No.4 slot, the second wicketkeeper and the fourth pacer.
It is expected that both the young fast bowlers will be travelling with the team to England as back-up, who could be drafted in if anyone from the pace troika of Bumrah, Shami and Bhuvneshwar get injured.
