In New York, a 22-year-old student died after she fell from about ten meters in height from the bell tower of your University. "Ms. Monfries had posted a video from the top of the tower on Snapchat with the caption "Bell tower" early Sunday, according to video shared with The New York Times".
Eventually, she was airlifted out through a window then lowered to the ground to be taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Unconscious when the paramedics arrived, time was lost as they struggled to get Monfries out of the narrow tower staircase while on a stretcher. University officials are investigating how the students gained access to the tower.
People began posting on her Facebook page on Sunday, mourning the loss and offering their condolences to her family, who flew in from Portland, Ore.
A waiter at the restaurant where they had dinner beforehand told The New York Post that he did not know if they had been drinking.
According to the university, Monfries had climbed the clock tower with some friends. They were like, 'We're seniors.
'She couldn't breath. She hit her head, ' he said.
'She was with a group of friends.
The waiter said that after she fell, his roommate rushed to be by her side.
The budding journalist, who was due to graduate next month, had completed a string of internships at a news network, InStyle magazine and a public relations company.
Her death was announced to students in an email sent by the school, which described the "unimaginable loss" suffered by Ms Monfries' family, friends and school community. McShane says the school plans to award the student a bachelor's degree posthumously.
